Planning & Pre-Construction

Goal: Lay the groundwork before physical work begins.

Site Preparation

Goal: Clear and level the land for construction.

  • Site clearing – Remove vegetation, debris, or existing structures If any.
  • Excavation – Dig for foundation based on site plan.
  • Levelling and grading – Ensure surface is flat or sloped as needed.

Foundation Work

Goal: Provide a solid base for the structure.

  • Marking layout – Mark exact locations of walls and columns.
  • Excavation for footing – Dig trenches where footings will be placed.
  • Pouring concrete: Place reinforcement bars and pour concrete for footings and foundation.
  • Curing: Let concrete harden and gain strength.

Superstructure Construction

Goal: Build the main structure above the foundation.

  • Column and beam construction: Vertical and horizontal supports.
  • Slab casting: Floors (slabs) are poured and cured.
  • Brickwork or blockwork: Construct external and internal walls.
  • Lintels and chajjas: Support above windows/doors and provide weather protection.

Roofing

Goal: Protect the building from weather.

  • Roof structure: Trusses, beams, or concrete slab.
  • Roof covering: Tiles, sheets, shingles, or waterproofing.
  • Drainage: Install gutters and downpipes for rainwater.

Plastering & Waterproofing

Goal: Finish surfaces and prevent moisture damage.

  • Internal and external plastering
  • Waterproofing bathrooms, terraces, basements

MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) Work

Goal: Install core utility systems.

  • Electrical wiring and panelling
  • Plumbing for water and waste

Finishing Work

Goal: Add interior and exterior finishes.

Design Presentation

Goal: Present the overall vision to the client.

  • Share mood boards, sketches, or 3D renders
  • Present sample materials, fabrics, finishes, and color palettes
  • Adjust the design based on feedback
  • Finalize the design direction and move to detailed planning

Detailed Drawings & Material Selection

Goal: Finalize technical details and select all materials.

  • Prepare technical drawings: Ceiling, Lighting, Furniture, Flooring, Elevations
  • Choose materials: Paint, Wallpapers, Flooring, Tiles, Fabric, Wood, Hardware
  • Select Lighting, Furniture, Decor, Kitchen and Bath Fixtures

Budgeting & Procurement

Goal: Finalize the budget and begin sourcing.

  • Create a detailed cost estimate
  • Source and purchase materials, furniture, lights, accessories, etc.
  • Work with vendors, suppliers, and artisans

Execution & Site Supervision

Goal: Turn the design into reality.

  • Coordinate with carpenters, painters, electricians, plumbers, etc.
  • Monitor quality of materials and workmanship
  • Ensure design is being followed on-site
  • Manage timeline and troubleshoot issues

Installation

Goal: Place everything in the space.

  • Install furniture, light fixtures, curtains, rugs, accessories
  • Set up appliances, storage units, and decor items
  • Final styling touches (plants, artwork, throw pillows, etc.)

Final Walkthrough & Handover

Goal: Ensure client satisfaction and complete the project.

  • Walk through the space with the client
  • Address any final fixes or touch-ups (snag list)
  • Provide maintenance tips if needed
  • Celebrate the transformation!

Bonus: Post-Handover Support

  • Optional: Offer ongoing support or future styling updates
  • Collect feedback and take photos for your portfolio

Initial Planning & Site Assessment

  • Purpose: Determine what kind of outside electrical work is needed (e.g., service connection, street lighting, transformers).
  • Site Visit: An electrician or contractor visits the site to assess the scope and conditions.
  • Utility Coordination: If connecting to the grid, coordination with the local utility provider is essential.

Design & Proposal

  • Design Drawings: Electrical plans are drafted, including trench routes, cable types, panel locations, etc.
  • Load Calculations: Engineers calculate the power requirements to ensure proper sizing.
  • Proposal/Estimate: Contractor provides a quote or bid for the project based on the design and materials.

Contract Agreement

  • Scope of Work: Clearly outlines what’s included (e.g., trenching, conduit, wiring, inspections).
  • Timeline: Start and finish dates, milestones, and delays clause.
  • Pricing: Fixed price or time-and-materials based. Also includes payment schedule.
  • Legal Terms: Liability, warranties, change orders, and termination clauses.

Permits & Approvals

  • Permit Application: The contractor applies for electrical and possibly excavation permits.
  • Utility Approval: If connecting to public power lines, the utility company must approve.
  • Inspections Scheduled: Pre-installation and post-installation inspections are planned.

Execution of Work

  • Site Preparation: Marking utility lines (Call Before You Dig), trenching begins.
  • Installation: Conduit, wiring, junction boxes, lighting, grounding, etc., are installed.
  • Utility Tie-in: Final connection to the power grid is done by or with utility provider.
  • Temporary Power (if needed): Sometimes temporary service is installed during construction.

Inspection & Testing

  • Electrical Inspection: Local inspector ensures code compliance (NEC or local codes).
  • Testing: Cables and systems are tested for continuity, insulation, and grounding.
  • Final Approval: Work is approved before energizing.

Completion & Handover

  • As-Built Drawings: Final plans showing actual installation layout.
  • Warranty Info: Any warranties on labor or equipment provided.
  • Maintenance Plan (if needed): Especially for things like outdoor lighting or substations.
  • Final Payment: Once inspection passes and punch list is cleared, final payment is made.

  • Service Agreement with Utility: Especially for large commercial jobs.
  • Ongoing Maintenance Contract: For private lighting, EV chargers, etc.
